Rubus, a red standard smooth dachshund, has been bringing smiles to children for over 10 years with his therapy work. He got his name because he was adopted during raspberry season. “Rubus” is the scientific name for the raspberry plant. His father was black (black raspberry) and his mother was red (red raspberry). Rubus was the baby berry. Although he is a red dachshund, he has some black hair mixed in from his father. He began his therapy work with infants and children who were receiving Occupational Therapy and now also works with the adult population and the elderly at Pennsburg Manor Care and Grandview Hospital in Sellersville. Rubus has a very sweet mellow disposition. When he is not doing therapy work, Rubus loves to play soccer rolling upside down in the grass, all 4 feet dancing in the air….quite a cute and funny sight to see.
Lewin, also known as “Lewi”, is a chocolate “tweeny” (falling in between the standard and the miniature) longhaired dachshund. Lewin means “beloved friend” and that is exactly what Lewi is to the people he visits. He is in his element when making his weekly visits at Pennsburg Manor Care. He is very gentle and has this incredible knack to understand what contact the individual needs and or seeks. Lewi also works at Grandview Hospital in Sellersville to bring smiles and brighten the day for people there. Just Lewi’s approach makes people chuckle happily because of his silly “wiggle-waggle” walk and his big puffy massive very long hair. (The hair on the side of him is about 5-6” long.) When not doing therapy work, Lewi is very playful and enjoys throwing things up in the air, doggy wrestling with Rubus and running extremely fast! (We need to find a “Weiner” race to enter him in as he would surely be one of the top runners if not the top!)
Stella is a very special Australian Cattle Dog mix. After being abandoned along the road, Stella found her forever home. Her sensitivity to adults and children alike make her a well-rounded therapy dog. She is comfortable assisting a physical therapist with their patients as well as listening to a child read to her for the READ program. Stella’s favorite past times are playing ball, hiking and just being outdoors with her family.

My name Woody. I am an 3 year old Irish Wolfhound. I like to run around outside with Angus who is also a Irish Wolfhound. We chase each other all over our property and then come inside for water and a nap. My human, Bill, always enjoys my sitting next to him on the sofa and then I roll over to lay across his legs so he can pet almost my whole body. Being a Therapy Dog allows me to have my coat brushed and to maybe make the people smile when I look them in the eyes.

My name is Libby Lou and here is my story. I was born in South Carolina and quickly abandoned with my 4 sisters at a vet clinic. A short time later we were all given to a shelter. When our time ran out there, we were lucky enough to be rescued and placed in foster care in Delaware. That’s where I met my new family. No one is sure of my real date of birth but my vet estimated it to be the beginning of July, so July 4th 2007 became my birthday. Because no one really knows much about me and I don’t look anything like my sisters, I got DNA tested. I am a mix of several breeds, but mostly Mini Schnauzer and Australian Sheppard. My new owner noticed right away, how much I liked everyone. It did not matter how old or young people or other pets were, I liked them all. I am a fun loving girl who loves to play and give kisses. I became a therapy dog in December of 2009 and an R.E.A.D. dog in June 2010. I really enjoy snuggling up to hear a good book read by my people friends.

My fancy name is Go Casual Cooper, No Tie Required… but my friends just call me Cooper. I was named for my two dads~ my Golden Retriever dad’s name is Black Tie Required and The Cooper Union is my people dad’s alma mater. Some of my favorite things to do are go anywhere with my family, chomp on sticks, play tag with my furry friends, swim in the pool, and play in the snow. Anything you can do with a ball, count me in. I am an especially good soccer player… just try to get the ball away from me! I am my people mom’s B4… her Big, Blonde, Beautiful Boy. We can’t wait to visit hospitals, nursing facilities and schools to help both big and little folks have a golden day.

Emma Rose is a red long-haired Dachsund. She has been with me since she was eight weeks old and is a very special little lady. Emma loves belly rubs, kisses, children and the elderly. One of her favorite things to do is chase her brother, Baily Bear, who is a Dachsund as well. She also loves to go for walks where she can show off her tracking skills. Wherever Emma goes, there is a ray of sunshine. Along with earning her therapy dog registration, Emma also has her CGC certificate. We love her very much!

I am Sam and I am a Lhasa-Pom. I am certified as a therapy dog, although I actually started my therapy career when dad and mom adopted me. I saw dad and mom looking at puppies and decided I was the one for them so I showed how sweet and cuddly I was by leaping right into dad’s lap. My dad’s health was not good and I was his companion and “litter mate” (mom was the strict one). When he was having a good day we would play “fetch” really hard. When he was not feeling well, we would take it easy and rest, laying with him. Sometimes when he was really sick, I would lay my paw on his arm or leg so he felt my closeness and love. Sadly, my daddy went to heaven a few years ago; I really miss him. Mom and I decided since I brought Dad so much happiness and joy, I should share my joy with others. I visit Pottstown Hospital and various nursing homes. I love meeting new friends and bringing a smile to everyone’s face.
